During a recent interview with the Los Angeles Times, hall of fame trainer Freddie Roach gave his thoughts on the May showdown between WBA welterweight champion Shane Mosley and Floyd Mayweather Jr. As much as Roach would like Mosley to win, he think Mayweather’s speed and movement will be too much.
"I like Mayweather to win," Roach said. "I do hope Shane finds a way; he's my friend, but he has trouble with speed and the movement he'll get from Mayweather, so I think Floyd will win a decision."
Roach would not reveal the strategy to beat Mayweather. He thinks Molsey “will go after [Mayweather], and pressure him, and be very aggressive.”
He cautions Mosley because Mayweather will use that pressure to set him up for counter shots.
"But he has to be careful about doing that because he risks walking into some counterpunches. Floyd's not just a runner. He'll set you up. I'm sure Shane knows that. It'll be interesting to see how he deals with that," Roach said.
