Macau, China - WBO welterweight champion Manny Pacquiao is capable of squeezing down to the lightweight limit of 135-pounds, according to the boxer's trainer Freddie Roach.
Pacquiao (56-5-2, 38KOs) returns on Saturday night against Chris Algieri, the WBO's champion at 140-pounds. The fight will take place at a catch-weight of 144-pounds. If all goes well, Pacquiao is likely going down to junior welterweight.
If the right opportunity comes along, Roach says Pacquiao can make 135-pounds. He expects Pacquiao to weigh 142-pounds for the fight with Algieri.
“Yes he could make 135. He’s been in the 130s a couple of times during training camp already,” Roach revealed. “When he gets a little too low in weight I send him home and tell him to have a good steak.”
