With so many top fighters being trained at the Wild Card Gym in Hollywood, California, four-time "Trainer of the Year" Freddie Roach is planning to have a big training camp in the fall with three of his stars. Roach plans to leave on September 15 for the Philippines, to begin training Manny Pacquiao (51-3-2, 38 KOs). Pacquiao will not be the only fighter to get trained by Roach in the Philippines. Junior middleweight contender Vanes Martirosyan (28-0, 17 KOs) and middleweight Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. (41-0-1, 30 KOs) will travel to the Philippines with Roach to join Pacquiao in camp.
All three fighters have bouts coming up in the fall. Pacquiao will be training for his November 13 clash with Antonio Margarito (38-6, 27 KOs) for the vacant WBC junior middleweight title. Roach says Martirosyan and Chavez are likely to co-headline on December 4, with Chavez challenging WBA junior middleweight champ Miguel Cotto (35-2, 28 KOs), and Martirosyan possibly facing Pawel Wolak (27-1, 17 KOs) on the same card.
Pacquiao, Chavez, and Martirosyan may not be alone for long. While it's still not clear, the addition of WBA junior welterweight king Amir Khan (23-1, 17 KOs) to the camp is likely, as he returns to the ring on December 11. Roach says the sparring will top notch among the fighters.
