Mandalay Bay, Las Vegas - BoxingScene.com reported last week that former WBC middleweight champion Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. is looking to reunite with his former trainer, Freddie Roach.

After breaking away with Top Rank in 2014, and signing with manager/adviser Al Haymon, Chavez Jr. dropped the services of Roach and hired Joe Goossen. They had one fight together in April, where Chavez suffered his second career loss and was stopped in the ninth round by Andrzej Fonfara.

Chavez made a quick return in July, this time with Robert Garcia in his corner, and won a ten round decision over Marcos Reyes. He suffered a hand injury in the win over Reyes and recently had surgery.

He plans to return in early 2016, and hopes to have Roach return to the corner.

"The thing is, I've been waiting for that [call]. I've always liked him. We had three or four good fights together and he never said 'no' to me once. He was a great student. I remember he came in to watch Pacquiao work out one day and he said 'I want you to train me.' And I said 'okay, can you do what we just did?' And he said 'well, I think you guys are a little bit crazy but I think I can.' Honestly that's what he said. And he did it for four fights. But then the fifth fight, I don't know what went wrong. I don't know if he was scared of the opponent or something in his head," Roach said.

"The Sergio Martinez fight, he could have won that fight easily I thought, because he was too big and too strong for him. But he didn't show up [for training camp]. He only showed up for five days to train."

"He'll never be as a good as his dad was, and I think that's what hurts him the most. He wants to be as good as his dad was, but that's just not going to happen."
