Trainer Freddie Roach predicts that his new pupil, Julio Cesar Chavez Jr., will achieve a knockout win over John Duddy on Saturday night at the Alamodome in San Antonio, Texas. The two middleweight will fight for the silver title of the WBC.
Roach wants to Chavez to work the body and to target the eyes of Duddy. The Irish fighter had suffered serious cuts in several of his past fights. He suffered cuts so severe in a 2008 decision win over Walid Smichet, that he was forced to withdraw from a planned championship fight with Kelly Pavlik.
"We talked a lot about what to do in the fight. If everything goes according to plan. If he throws his jab well. If he can connect to the body like we discussed. We spoke about how Duddy cuts very easy along his eyebrows. I think we can finish him in 10 or 11 rounds," Roach was quoted as saying by Golzka.
"This will be our first test since we started working together. I liked that he never said 'no' to anything that I told him to do, and that made things easier."
