Veteran trainer Freddie Roach believes Andre Berto's inactivity may have played a role in last Saturday's decision loss to Victor Ortiz. In a span of a year, Berto had only one round in the bank, with a first round knockout of Freddy Hernandez last November.

"It's very hard for a guy like Berto to be very sharp after having one round of boxing in a whole year. Activity is something that fighters need and he didn't have enough activity with the Haiti thing, with the Shane Mosley fight being canceled and he never got the right amount of activity," Roach told Natasha Aiello of OnTheGrind Boxing Radio.

Roach considers Berto a very skilled fighter and expects him to bounce back from defeat.

"We'll see more from him. He's a good fighter and he lost to a good fighter. They tried to write off Victor Ortiz when he got knocked out, but that's part of life in boxing. People get knocked out and people lose fights. Sometimes losing makes you a better fighter. Sometimes we learn from our mistakes," Roach said.
