Trainer Freddie Roach expects his boxer, WBA junior welterweight champion Amir Khan (24-1, 17KOs), to stop unbeaten challenger Paul McCloskey (22-0, 12KOs) on April 16 at the MEN Arena in Manchester, England. Roach likes what he sees from the boxing ability of McCloskey but he feels Amir is on another level in terms of skill and talent.
"He's a tough southpaw. He has a very good right hook with knockout power. I don't think he's really of the caliber of Amir Khan, and Amir should knock him out," Roach told Jose Aguirre of BoxingScene.com.
If Khan gets past McCloskey, a unification with WBO/WBC champion Timothy Bradley is being discussed for July 30 in the United States.
