This fall, eight division world champion Manny Pacquiao will end a short-lived retirement when he steps back in the ring against once-beaten WBO welterweight champion Jessie Vargas.
Pacquiao retired back in April after winning a twelve round decision in his trilogy bout with Timothy Bradley at the MGM Grand.
The fight with Vargas takes place on November 5th at Las Vegas' Thomas & Mack Center. The Pay-Per-View distributor has yet to be determined.
The initial frontrunner to face Pacquiao was former four division champion Adrien Broner. Pacquiao's promoter Bob Arum of Top Rank was unable to satisfy Broner's monetary demand. Broner reportedly rejected an offer of $4 million to take the fight.
When the negotiations with Broner fell out, then Pacquiao's team turned to Vargas.
Arum and Pacquiao's adviser, Michael Koncz, were very much in favor of securing Broner. Pacquiao's trainer, Freddie Roach, was not.
"I don't think Adrien Broner really brings all that much to the table. He's okay, but I don't think he's quite in the Pacquiao league at this point," Roach told Fight Hub.
The main Roach really wants, is WBC welterweight champion Danny Garcia. Roach likes Garcia's style and has no worries over his overly talkative father/trainer Angel Garcia.
"I prefer a fight with Danny Garcia," Roach said. "I still like that fight, but I don't think his dad does. "His Dad's okay. He just tries to get under your skin. But there's no way he'd be able to do that with me or Pacquiao. That's just not going to work with us. It's just not."
Garcia, who captured the WBC title in January with a decision win over Robert Guerrero, is likely coming back on October 15th. The opponent is unknown at the opponent, although former welterweight world champion Andre Berto has been mentioned on several occasions.
