Trainer Freddie Roach is not going to hold his breath for a potential Manny Pacquiao vs. Miguel Cotto bout. He is not confident that Cotto will get past Joshua Clottey on June 13 at New York's Madison Square Garden. Top Rank is very interested in matching bouth fighters, and Pacquiao will be ringside for Cotto's defense against Clottey.
"I think Cotto will lose his next fight or has a good chance to. He is in for a very tough fight," Roach was quoted as saying by Digital Journal.
The big subject of weight has been brought up. If Cotto beats Clottey and then falls in line for Pacquiao, he will need to get down to at least 142-pounds, and the same goes for Shane Mosley. Cotto is willing to get down as low as 144 and Mosley may consider shaving off a pound or two but it's very unlikely that either of them could get down to 142.
"[Cotto] weighs around 147 pounds and my guy is a 140 pounder. The same with Sugar Shane. If he wants to come down in weight and make it more of a 140 pound division fight. We will also consider him," Roach said.
