In what is growing to be a very controversial situation, the president of the Boxing Commission of Puerto Rico, Dommys Delgado Berty, confirms that she received a verbal complaint, two days before Saturday's shocking upset, regarding the appointment of referee Roberto Ramirez

Mexico's Orlando Salido stopped Juan Manuel Lopez in the eight round of their Bayamon clash - after Ramirez called a halt to the action. Ramirez felt Juanma was taking too much punishment, but local fans disagreed as the Puerto Rican boxer was still punching back and they pelted the ring with various objects after the fight was stopped.

Peter Rivera of Puerto Rico Best Boxing, who co-promotes Juanma with Top Rank, called Berty last Thursday and told her that he was advised that the referee, Ramirez, had "wagered against Juanma" in his past title bout with Daniel Ponce De Leon. She told Rivera that unless he was able to obtain hard evidence, she couldn't proceed with any type of action.

"The only call that I had regarding the referee was from Peter Rivera, two days before the fight, indicating to me that someone had told him that [Ramirez] had wagered on a fight between Juanma and Daniel Ponce De Leon. I told him that it was a very delicate matter and I could not proceed based on something verbal. I told him to send a complaint, but even on the day of the fight, and as of today, it never arrived in the hands of the commission. If it would have arrived, we would had handled it," Berty said.
