Auditorio Centenario, Gomez Palacio, Durango, Mexico - WBC bantamweight Champion Yazmin "Rusita" Rivas (31-8, 9KOs) thrilled her hometown, using her power and strength to convincingly once again defeat intrepid Australian, Susie Ramadan.
From beginning to end, an impassioned Rivas opened the path for victory using her long left jabs, backed up by a steady torrent of powerful right hands to the head. Ramadan who doesn't possess the same firepower, boxed intelligently, crisply counter punching and proving an elusive target for the Champion.
Susie fought with exceptional bravery. She suffered an injury to her right cheek early in the fight, but still kept her boxing together and pressed Yazmin throughout.
“Rusita” brought the crowd to its feet during the 8th and 9th round landing some heavy and telling blows as the Australian opted to stand and trade.
In the ebbing moments of the tenth and final round, "Rusita" backed Susie on to the ropes and a combination to the body, had the Australian temporarily gasping, although she continued to fight back until the bell.
Before the decision was announced Susie gave a small but noticeable shake of her head. She'd tried her utmost, but it had not been quite enough.
When that decision was announced she gave a wry smile and a shrug, before congratulating Yazmin, who'd also defeated her in 2011.
Judges Jesus Aleman & Jerry Venzor scored it 98-92 and Fran Bechen 97-93, all in favor of Yazmin. Ramadan who left the ring to deserved applause is 23-2, 8.
