Trainer Jorge Rubio is very proud of Guillermo Rigondeaux's eleventh round stoppage of Hisashi Amagasa on December 31 in Osaka, Japan. He says the explosive performance, which saw Rigondeaux (15-0, 10KOs) get off the canvas to battle hard with the much bigger Amagasa, is a sign of future things to comes.
Rubio says the two-time Olympic gold medal winner continues to improve with every performance and promises more explosive action in the future.
"Rigondeaux will soon make the kind of fights that everyone wants to see in professional boxing. Against Amagasa we saw the beginning of what's coming. But, we can do that from one day to another. What we have seen so far, is that he's been improving in every fight. And we are willing to challenge and test ourselves against the best champions of this division. To say that [Rigondeaux does nothing but run] is to lie to those who know boxing and appreciate the excellent display of skills developed by this great champion," said Rubio.
