Rumors are circulating in Miami that former WBA/WBO super bantamweight champion Guillermo Rigondeaux (15-0, 10KOs) may return next Saturday night as part of the Miguel Cotto vs. Saul Alvarez undercard at the Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas.
There are apparently discussions taking place for Rigondeaux to sign with Roc Nation Sports, the promoter of Cotto and lead promoter of the show.
Earlier this year there were discussions to sign Rigondeaux, but those talks fell apart due to a conflict between the fighter's manager Gary Hyde and his promoter Caribe Promotions. That won't be an issue any longer as Hyde's relationship with Rigondeaux expired in September.
Boris Arencibia, President of Caribe, did not fully confirm the rumors but he provide some very strong hints.
"So many insults have been directed [at Rigondeaux and Caribe], let's see how many of them are going to say that Boris couldn't do it and Caribe couldn't do it and they were robbing Rigondeaux. Now the time has come and everything will come together in boxing," Boris said. "If you are Cuban, do not say that you are not around on November 21, or you will miss out on one of the more important moments for boxing and Cuban music."
A source from Miami with knowledge of the details has advised BoxingScene.com that discussions are indeed taking place, but nothing has been finalized, yet.
A fourth bout has not been set for the HBO Pay-Per-View card after Andre Ward suffered an injury and withdrew from the card last week.
