Promoter Boris Arencibia of Caribe Promotions is promising a new era for WBA/WBO super bantamweight champion Guillermo Rigondeaux (15-0, 10KOs).
He says September 15th will be the start of a new day, because that's the day that Rigondeaux's managerial contract expires with Gary Hyde of Ireland.
Plans are in motion for Rigondeaux to make his return on a date in November. He's been out of the ring since a victory on December 31 in Japan.
"The ultimate goal is a fight in November. We have already begun to make certain efforts and Caribe's position is to find him a suitable opponent to the level of our great champion and a major television network [to carry it],'' Arencibia told Jorge Ebro.
"It's no secret that we have had differences with Hyde. [That agreement] limited our ability to work. Hyde had the final word in the contracts, but that will soon end and a new era will begin.''
Hyde is not walking away without a fight. He claims his contract with Rigondeaux is good until January.
"That's not true, but he always [claims that]. He said he pursued fights [for Rigo] with Roc Nation, for example, but this is nonsense. He spoken on behalf of Rigo as if we did not exist, as if [he was the only one involved].''
"I just hope [the public] will watch at what will happen after September 15, when we will be in a better position to seek the best purses and opponents for Rigo. People will then see who has been responsible for the career of Rigo."
