Before a crowd of 55,000 at the City of Manchester Stadium in Manchester, England, Ricky 'The Hitman' Hatton (44-1, 31 KOs) outworked Juan Lazcano (37-4-1, 27 KOs) for a unanimous decision. The scores were 120-110, 118-110 and 120-108 for Hatton.

Hatton threw and landed a lot more punches than Lazcano, but he was buckled by left hooks in the eight and tenth round of the fight. In the tenth, Lazcano caught him with two left hooks to place him in trouble. The referee broke them up to warn Lazcano for holding and hitting, and then allowed Hatton to get more time to recover by sending him back to the corner to get his loose shoelace tied.

The win sets up a November clash with IBF junior welterweight champion Paulie Malignaggi, who won a split-decision over Lovemore Ndou in the co-feature.
