Chris Aston, the father and trainer of British light-welterweight titlist Tyrone Nurse, believes that his son is capable of moving on to the world scene should he beat Hull’s Tommy Coyle in Leeds later this month.

Huddersfield’s Nurse (33-2-1, 7 KOs) defends his title for the second time on the July 30 Eddie Hearn-promoted show.  Aston has told The Huddersfield Daily Examiner that they are edging closer to a world title contention with every fight.  Indeed, a shot against newly-minted WBA World title holder Ricky Burns could be on the cards for the winner.

“There are no injuries, which is great, and the build-up has been very hard, so I reckon Tyrone is now ready to showcase himself against Coyle,” he said.  “Eddie Hearn has spoken of the possibility of the winner from July 30 maybe challenging for the world title—so there is every chance.”

He added: “And even though Ricky Burns is a good fighter, that's one we would really relish.  We've been to Scotland and won against [Willie] Limond and we'd be prepared to go back and fight Burns.

“This Londsdale Belt we have at the moment, though, is a new one for the division, so the only name on it is Tyrone Nurse.  It really would be special to win it outright with just Tyrone's name on it, so that's something which might have to come into the thinking further down the line.”

Nurse registered an ninth-round TKO win over Limond in May; the 26-year-old has also posted victories over Chris Jenkins and previously undefeated Liam Taylor recently, so he will bounce into the Coyle defence buoyed by those results and with plenty of momentum behind him.
