WBO interim-lightweight champion Ricky Burns (34-2, 9KOs) is looking for a huge domestic showdown with Essex fighter Kevin Mitchell (33-1, 24KOs). On Saturday, Burns easily decisioned Paulus Moses (29-2) over twelve rounds at the Braehead Arena in Glasgow. Burns' trainer, Billy Nelson, hopes the Mitchell fight happens.
The two fighters are represented by promoter Frank Warren, who wants to stage the fight in the summer. Nelson remembers a past sparring session between Burns and Mitchell, and says the gym warfare would give Mitchell nightmares if a fight was signed.
"Mitchell fight will eventually happen; it's an easy fight to make. We would love that fight," Nelson told BBC Scotland. "We've already sparred with Kevin Mitchell and Kevin would have nightmares about it. "We'd love to bring it up to Scotland. It would be fantastic."
