Alex Morrison, the manager of WBA junior welterweight champion Ricky Burns, is very excited about the proposed April unification with IBO, IBF world champion Julius Indongo at the Hydro in Glasgow, Scotland.

Over the last few months, Burns has been linked to a variety of fights. First he was poised to defend in Las Vegas against Adrien Broner, but the fight never went forward. Then he was linked to facing former world champion Paulie Malignaggi, but there were concerns on whether or not Malignaggi could squeeze down to 140. And most recently Burns was linked to an April fight with Manny Pacquiao.

Burns (41-5-1, 14 KOs) was last seen in the ring in October, when he won a twelve round unanimous decision over mandatory challenger Kiryl Relikh, who suffered his first career defeat.

Last month, Indongo (20-0, 11 KOs) pulled off one of the biggest upsets of the year, and one of the best knockouts, all in one swoop. He traveled to Russia and knocked out heavily favored Eduard Troyanovsky in 40 seconds of the first round. A single punch sent Troyanovsky down and out. Troyanovsky was undefeated with a 25-0 record and being scouted as a possible opponent for fighters such as WBC/WBO champion Terence Crawford.

Morrison is taking Indongo very seriously - especially after what happened to Troyanovsky.

Morrison said to Daily Record: “Indongo showed how dangerous he is against the Russian. He is unbeaten in 21 fights and he is not to be underestimated. It’s a huge opportunity for Ricky. It’s a chance to get his hands on three of the super lightweight belts.

“That would make him a wanted man. The best in the world would be beating his door down. If successful then hopefully a fight in Vegas awaits Ricky. That’s something he has always dreamt about and it would be within his reach if he can deal with Indongo. There are some big fights out there for Ricky, but the most important one is Indongo.”
