Ricky Burns has insisted that he deserves a rematch following his latest defeat.

The Scotsman dropped a decision at the hands of lightweight rival Anthony Crolla last weekend at Manchester Arena.

The pair clashed exclusively live on Sky Sports over 12 rounds, with ‘Million Dollar’ getting the decision on all three judges’ scorecards by margins of 116-113, 117-112 and 116-114.

But ‘Rickster’, who is one fight away from number 50 in a glittering career during which he has won world titles in three different weight classes is adamant he did enough to get the win.

“What a fight me and [Crolla] had,” Burns wrote on social media on Monday morning. “[I’ve] just watched it back.

“On the night, I thought I’d done enough! But watching it back I scored it a draw.

“What an atmosphere in there and thanks for all the messages.

“Let’s get this rematch sorted.”

A return is something that has been talked about since the final bell and the promoter of the pair, Eddie Hearn of Matchroom Sport, is far from averse to putting on the second fight.

He told iFL TV: “With a Crolla and Burns hat on, I’d love to do the fight again in Glasgow.

“I think that was Ricky Burns’ best performance for maybe his past five, six, seven, eight fights and I’m really pleased that although he lost he showed that he’s got plenty left in the tank.

“They want the rematch in Scotland and Anthony will look at the options, but the key was that Anthony has come back from two defeats and that’s a big win for his career.

“The good thing about Ricky Burns is that he showed he’s got plenty of time left in the sport.”
