Rising super lightweight contender Richardson Hitchins (11-0) is looking to continue his march towards contender status.
The 22-year-old New York native recently appeared on Mayweather Promotions’ Instagram Live stream that was hosted by the company’s CEO Leonard Ellerbe.
Hitchins answered several fans’ questions on a variety of topics. One of which was his opinion on WBC lightweight champion Devin Haney.
"I think Devin Haney is a good fighter. He is young and hungry. I think that his work ethic is going to separate him a lot from the rest of the younger fighters coming up because if you can't stay dedicated to your craft - it is not a sprint, it is a marathon - he is playing the long game and he is working hard on his craft and I definitely got to respect that," said Hitchins.
The 2016 Haitian Olympian was 4-0 in 2019 and is looking to step up his competition level when boxing resumes in 2020. That led a fan to ask him for his thoughts on former super featherweight champion Argenis Mendez.
Last May, Mendez battled Mayweather Promotions' prospect Juan Heraldez to a draw in Brooklyn, New York in a fight televised on Showtime.
"I don't think nothing of him. I think if I fought Argenis Mendez right now I would beat him. I don't think he would give me no problem. I got respect for him for having been a world champion but I seen him fight Juan Heraldez at the Barclays and he didn't impress me at all," Hitchins explained.
Ellerbe agreed with Richardson, saying that the fight could definitely happen in the near future.
"We can make that happen. That is easy work right now," said Ellerbe.
