Ringstar Sports CEO Richard Schaefer, who promotes the upcoming contest involving WBC lightweight world champion Mikey Garcia (38-0, 30 KOs), says the undefeated boxer is capable of taking on any challenge.
Garcia takes part in a 135-pound title unification against IBF world champion Robert Easter Jr. on Saturday, July 28 in a Showtime televised fight from STAPLES Center in Los Angeles.
Should Garcia win his two-title showdown, there are several big options that he would like in his future.
One option is a potential unification with WBA world champion Vasyl Lomachenko.
And another option, which many view as the most dangerous of the bunch, is a two weight climb to welterweight - to challenge IBF world champion Errol Spence.
Garcia has captured world titles at 126, 130, 135 and 140. He would like to capture a title at 147 - and specifically do it by fighting Spence.
Schaefer believes Garcia would be a formidable opponent if matched against Spence, who many view as a huge favorite if the contest ever came off.
"Mikey Garcia has the opportunity to dominate at 135 and 140-pounds, plus he even wants to move up in weight and challenge himself against the best at 147-pounds. It shows the character and strength of Mikey Garcia. No challenge is too big for him. Whenever Mikey Garcia fights, it is must-see TV. He's as good as it gets in the sport.," Schaefer said.
Schaefer is not expecting an easy fight in Garcia's upcoming assignment. He expects a fight filled with fireworks.
"This challenge against Robert Easter Jr. is the kind of fight that can turn you into a boxing fan. This is going to be a barnburner. They say that styles make fights and these two styles are made for each other," Schaefer said.
The fight with Easter is just another step for Garcia to claim his position as the top dog of Los Angeles, says Schaefer.
"There was always somebody who carried the sport of boxing who was in Los Angeles, but right now there isn't. Mikey is coming to fill that void," Schaefer said.
