Undefeated super bantamweight puncher Rey Vargas (23-0, 20KOs) is very close to a mandatory shot at WBC champion Leo Santa Cruz (29-0-1, 17KOs). Vargas, 24-years-old, is calling for an all-Mexican showdown.

Vargas has stopped his last five opponents, including all four of his opponents in 2014. Already scoring a two round knockout in January, the young boxer plans to be just as busy in 2015.

But his Hall of Fame trainer, Ignacio "Nacho" Beristain, says his boxer needs a little more seasoning before a showdown of that nature.

"People think Rey is ready to fight for the world title. I beg to differ with them. He is a boy with a lot of schooling, but he must work hard - especially on the defensive because offensively he is a great fighter. He must be looked after very carefully and moved along properly to a title shot. You have to walk and not run," Nacho said.

Vargas has no issues with his trainer's school of thought.

"Nacho is the best there is. If he says that I need two or three more fights, then I'll do it," Vargas said.
