Unbeaten world champion Rey Vargas was a special guest at the traditional "Tuesday Coffee" with media in Mexico, to discuss his future plans as the current super bantamweight world champion by the World Boxing Council (WBC).

Vargas wants to move up to featherweight to face WBA world champion Leo Santa Cruz. If can't get that fight, he'll face mandatory challenger Tomoki Kameda.

Vargas (33-0, 23 KO's), a disciple of Hall of Famer trainer Don Nacho Beristain, declared: "The cuts have healed [from my last fight], I am waiting for the doctor to give us the green light and return in May or June, we are in talks to return with either the official challenger Tomoki Kameda or with Santa Cruz. Among Mexicans there have always been good fights and it's a guaranteed spectacle. We have been looking for that fight for a long time and without any problem I am willing to go up to their division.

"I do not know if he's scared or what, because he and his team are stalling. We know how to move up the right way. Leo's style is that he throws punches everywhere and I throw a lot of punches. To be a great champion we have to fight with the best and what better than facing a solid champion and I am an undefeated champion, he is a better fighter than any other and I want him to accept that fight. I have had very tough fights but I want to face Santa Cruz."

The boxer represented by Promociones De Pueblo and Golden Boy Promotions said: "With Kameda we already fought in amateurs and it has nothing to do with the professional. I have risked a lot to win little, it's time to look for other horizons. I would like to fight with Leo. I'll go up to featherweight and prove who Rey Vargas is.

"I want the WBC to allow me to fight in a featherweight bout and go back to super bantam to face Tomoki, my body still allows me to make the super bantamweight limit. I just want to face Leo and come back, although I would also like to eventually settle at featherweight. I want a fight with a lot of technique, we are waiting for a fight with a good purse because once this career is finished that's the end."
