Palenque, Metepec, México - Super bantamweight prospect Rey Vargas was unable to score a knockout victory over brave Filipino contender Edward Mansito as they went the full ten round distance. With the victory Vargas retains the International Super Bantamweight title of the World Boxing Council.
Vargas (24-0, 20 KOs), 24, unloaded on Mansito (13-2-2, 7 KOs) in every round. He hurt Mansito several times, scored a knockdown and the Filipino continued to stay in the fight with a mountain of courage. After ten rounds, the scores were all the same - 100-88, 100-88 and 100-88.
Vargas is trained by Hall of Fame trainer Nacho Beristain. Nacho sees Vargas as a future world champion who will capture belts in several weight divisions.
