Junior lightweight Eduardo “Rocky” Hernandez made weight Thursday, but Rene Tellez Giron failed to meet the weight limit for their 12-round main event on Friday.

The bout will take place at Hilton Lac Leamy in Gatineau, Quebec, Canada, where Hernandez will try to maintain his No.1 ranking in the WBC while angling for a fight with O’Shaquie Foster.

Hernandez, 27, hit the scales at 129.4lbs while Giron, 26, came in at 131.6lbs – well over the 130lbs junior lightweight limit.

Hernandez, 36-2 (32 KOs), enters the fight highly ranked not only by the WBC but also by the WBA, at No. 9. Hernandez is on a two-fight winning streak since losing a title fight to Foster, the current WBC junior lightweight titleholder.

In Hernandez’s most recent bout, he defeated Thomas Mattice after a cut forced the bout to go to the scorecards and Hernandez was ahead at the time of the stoppage. Hernandez, of Mexico City, has received help and sparring from Angel Fierro in training camp for this fight.

Giron, 20-4 (13 KOs), is coming off a November loss to Floyd Schofield at a bout contested at lightweight. Giron, from Queretaro, Mexico, had won three fights in a row before that loss. He has fought at junior lightweight, lightweight and junior welterweight throughout a career that spans nearly a decade.

The bout will stream on DAZN.
