At the Skydome in Coventry, West Midlands, Rendall Munroe (21-1, 9 KOs), already the European champion, stopped Victor Terrazas (25-2-1, 13 KOs) in the ninth round of a WBC mandatory super bantamweight eliminator to earn a title shot at WBC champion Toshiaki Nishioka of Japan.
In the early rounds, Terrazas was using his jab and accurate punching to pick up some early points. Munroe, a slow starter at times, needed a few rounds to adjust to Terrazas' style. He began to pick up the pace in the fifth, making the Mexican fighter working much harder. He stayed right on top of Terrazas and wouldn't give him any room to box or use his jab. By the ninth, Terrazas was worn down from Munroe's inside punishment and couldn't put any punches together. Munroe landed a hook to the body that dropped a spent Terrazas down for the full count.
In the co-feature, Olympic bronze medal Tony Jeffries (6-0, 4KOs) won a six round decision over Nathan King (12-16, 1KOs) in their super middleweight bout. Jeffries dominated nearly all of the action but King is tough, despite his record and was able to last the distance. King took Olympic gold medal winner James DeGale to the final bell in December.
