BoxingScene.com has been informed that former light heavyweight champions Reggie Johnson (43-7-1, 25KOs) and Julio Gonzalez (41-4, 25KOs) are set to collide on February 23 at the Civic Center in Lake Charles, Louisiana. BoxingScene has also learned the IBA light heavyweight title will be at stake.
Johnson was previously scheduled to face Glen Johnson in the main event of a proposed November pay-per-view, but pulled out due an injury suffered during training camp. He's been inactive since August of 2005, when he stopped Fred Moore. Prior to Moore, he was inactive since January 2002, when he was outpointed by Antonio Tarver with a close split-decision over twelve.
Gonzalez is coming off a September unanimous decision loss to IBF champion Clinton Woods. The loss to Woods was a war and regarded as one of the better fights of 2007.
