It was reported by Fox News in Houston that former middleweight and light heavyweight champion Reggie Johnson has been officially hit with charges of organized criminal activity. Johnson was arrested in March 2008, accused of stealing more than $100,000 from the Houston Area Urban League, Inc. It was a youth boxing camp that never took place.
Prosecutors told Fox News 26 that three others, Deidre Jones Shook, Ed Lee and Dorothy Spencer, have all been indicted and arrested in connection with Johnson. Johnson's trial is scheduled to begin in March.
Assistant District Attorney Terese Buess said the Urban League received more than $1 million from the Red Cross to distribute for the agency's 2007 summer Youth Enrichment Action Programs. Johnson was supposed to put on a series of boxing camps in the summer of 2007 that involving more than 40 children.
