With his suspension from the Nevada State Athletic Commission nearly finished up, Mexican contender Raymundo Beltran (29-7-1, 17KOs) is ready to return to the ring in May, either at 135 or 140 pounds, according to what his promoters are telling him.
Beltran tested positive last May for banned substance stanozolol, which is prohibited by the Commission, and he received a punishment of a nine month suspension - which he says will expire on Saturday, February 20th.
"I'm training well and strong. These were difficult times because I felt that I was in the prime of my career and not only that but I had the opportunity to go for a world championship, but then came this problem with the suspension. But hey, I'm preparing or my return and I'm eager and motivated to look for big fights and world championships," Beltran told ESPN Deportes.
The native of Los Mochis, Sinaloa, said he has asked his handlers to get him an opportunity at the 135 or 140-pound division and that he would have no problem facing the best possible opponents at lightweight.
"I'm ready to go to 135 pounds. I can make the weight, but if something comes at 140 pounds with a good name....the risks will be obviously higher but the reward will be as well....so I'm anxious to get back into the ring and leave this chapter behind me."
In his last fight, Beltran knocked out Takahiro Ao in two rounds for the vacant world title of the World Boxing Organization. However, the result was changed to a no-contest after the positive test result.
