The controversial bout between former heavyweight champion Ray Mercer and former UFC heavyweight champ Tim Sylvia finally took place in Brimingham, Alabama. The fight was scheduled to take place as a normal boxing match but instead it took place in a cage at the BJCC Arena.

The 1988 Olympic boxing gold medal winner caught Sylvia right on the chin with an counter overhand right after Sylvia threw a kick as he came out. Sylvia went down hard and the fight was stopped in nine seconds after Mercer landed two more right hands while Sylvia was down.

After the fight was over, Mercer would go on to call for a showdown with Eric "Butterbean" Esch.
