They say if you can't beat them - join them. Back in late November, Ray Beltran was unsuccessful in his attempt to win the WBO lightweight title from Terence Crawford in Omaha, Nebraska. Crawford is managed by Cameron Dunkin, who just happened to ink Beltran to a deal on Wednesday.
"Really, really excited about him," said Dunkin, who has a talented stable of boxers.
"He's a really, really good fighter. He's a world champion just waiting to happen. He beat Ricky Burns, he didn't get it and then of course Terence took care of Beltran."
Dunkin added to BoxingScene.com - "There's no disgrace in losing to Terence, who may be the best fighter in the world, so I'm really excited about pushing him at lightweight and getting him a title fight, hopefully getting him on HBO and letting him make some money."
Beltran is still promoted by Top Rank. The plans call for Crawford, who will return sometime in the spring, is to move up to junior welterweight, meaning that the WBO belt will be vacant. Dunkin says he will - ''talk to the WBO, I'm going to get on that and get him moving right away."
