At the Alamodome in San Antonio, Jose Juan Fuentes (9-1, 4 KOs) over Rogelio Barron (12-7, 4 KOs) by TKO at 1:12 in the 5th round. Fuentes was down in both the first and second rounds, and Barron was knocked down in the 5th round before the bout was stopped due to unanswered punches.
In a very engaging light welterweight bout, James Cantu (5-0, 3 KOs), from San Antonio, TX, over Antonio Gamez (3-2-1, 1 KO), of Laredo, TX, by UD with scores of 39-36, 39-36, & 40-35. Gamez was knocked down in the 3rd round.
In his toughest test to date, light middleweight Omar Henry (10-0, 8 KOs), of Houston, TX, defeated Hilario Lopez (12-10 8 KOs), of Nampa, Idaho, by Unanimous Decision with all judges’ scores of 40-34. Henry was credited with a knockdown in 1st round when a push followed a punch. Henry scored a legit knockdown early in 4th going for the knockout stoppage, but ended up going the distance for only the second time in his young career.
Sensational amateur standout light welterweight Jose Benavidez (7-0, 6 KOs), from Phoenix, AZ, dramatically stopped Josh Beeman (4-7-3, 2 KOs), of Providence, RI, by KO with a body shot at 1:20 in 1st round.
In a middleweight battle Emanuel Ledezma (9-1, 2 KOs), of San Antonio, TX, returned to the ring for only the 2nd time in the past 3½ years to place the first loss on Nelson Ramos (4-1, 2 KOs), from Houston, TX, by Unanimous Decision with the judges’ scores of 39-37, 39-37, & 40-36.
Tomas Villa (23-7-4, 14 KOs) outworked Salvador Sanchez II (19-4-2, 9 KOs) over eight rounds to win a unanimous decision in a featherweight contest. The scores were 77-75, 79-73 and 78-74.
Raul Martinez (27-1, 16 KOs) stopped Gabriel Elizondo (22-4-1, 10 KOs) in the seventh round of a junior bantamweight contest. Martinez was too strong for Elizondo. He knocked him down in the fifth round, and really decked him hard at the end of the sixth. Elizondo did not recover and was decked hard again in the seventh. The ref jumped in to stop it after he went down. There was a clash of heads in the middle rounds that opened up a cut above Elizond's left eye.
