According to trainer Ignacio Beristain, an offer was presented for Rafael Marquez to get a crack at WBA/IBF super bantamweight champion Celestino Caballero at the end of February. The venue will be agreed upon at a later date, but should be in the United States. After recently stopping Steve Molitor in the fourth round of their unification bout, Caballero began calling out all of the big names at his weight. Lately he's been chasing WBO champ Juan Manuel Lopez, who appears to have other plans.
Beristain told ESTO that he plans to accompany Marquez's manager, Jaime Quintana, to a meeting in the next week or two in Los Angeles to discuss the possible fight. The man everyone wants to face at the weight, WBC ruler Israel Vazquez, is recovering from his recent surgery for a detached retina in his right eye.
