As we recently reported, the camp of Daniel Ponce De Leon told ESTO that Golden Boy Promotions was in the process of securing a fight with Rafael Marquez. His handlers said the fight would be an eliminator or for some kind of a title belt. Trainer and manager Nacho Beristain has responded to the fight rumor hitting the Mexican press and denies that Marquez is interested in a bout with Ponce De Leon.

"Rafael is not going to fight with Ponce. There are other plans for Rafa, that are very different and going in other directions. In time, Marquez is going to fight for a championship, but we have nothing with Ponce," Beristain told ESTO

Beristain said Marquez will return to the ring on March 14 or 21. He's been away from the ring since last March's trilogy war with Israel Vazquez, who returns in June. They hope to get a fourth fight with Vazquez in 2009.
