Rafael Marquez, the former bantamweight world champion, wanted to clarify that he injured his right hand, but in no way will he cancel his fight with WBO featherweight champion Juan Manuel "Juanma Lopez" in Las Vegas. It will only be postponed. Rafael and Juan Manuel were to meet on the 18th of September, but the fight  will be postponed due to Marquez hurting his thumb and part of his right hand.

Marquez said that three days ago thee was an accident with a door. He thought he would have no major problems, but the injury intensified with his training on Wednesday, so he visited his trusted doctors, Plutarco Gatica and Rafael Barragan, who informed him that fortunately there was no fracture, but there is an inflammation, and he would need to go at least six to eight weeks without hitting anything.

"I am disappointed with this injury, because I was confident that I could fight. I already had one and a half months of training. I was very happy to fight in September, which is a special month for us Mexicans, but because of this incident I will have to postpone," Marquez said.

Rafael said he expects to fight in mid-October or early November. "I hope to be ready for those dates," he added.

Marquez said that he will not suspend his training as he can still strike with his left hand, and plans to continue his running and various exercises.

"I have to postpone because Juanma Lopez is one of the best fighters in the world. I have to be at 100% to beat him," he added.
