Trainer/manager Nacho Beristain was shocked to find out from reporters that former champion Rafael Marquez had broken away from him. Beristain had been with Marquez for his entire career. Nacho doesn't have a problem with the split but says there is an existing contract between them.

"If Rafael has decided to leave this gym, no problem. He has his reasons and we still have the same respect. I hope he does well in his career. Anyway, there is an existing contract between us. Later I'll decide what do about it," Beristain told ESTO.

Marquez will likely use Daniel Zaragoza to prepare for the upcoming fourth meeting with Israel Vazquez on May 22 in Los Angeles. If he wins, he could face Juan Manuel Lopez in September [if Lopez beats Steven Luevano on January 23].

He claimed Beristain barely gave him any attention in the gym and focused most of his energy on older brother Juan Manuel Marquez.

"I virtually trained alone. He was devoted only to my brother Juan Manuel," Marquez said.

Nacho responded: "I know I always gave him the attention he needed, but I must say one thing -  if I tell him something, and someone else is telling him something then things could no longer go well."
