Last week, Filipino boxer AJ "Bazooka" Banal (25-1-1, 19KOs) publicly challenged Rafael "El Torito" Concepcion (16-5-1, 8KOs) of Panama to a rematch. The former WBA world champion at super flyweight, said he is willing to give Banal a rematch. Banal suffered the first and only loss of his career to Concepcion - by way of a tenth round knockout in 2008. Banal has won eight straight, while Concpecion has dropped fights to big names like Nonito Donaire, Fernando Montiel and Jorge Arce.
The rematch will have to wait, as Banal needs time to heal from an injury that he suffered during last weekend's technical decision win over Tyson Cover.
"I was negotiating for several weeks with the Banal's managers for a rematch, but for now there is no fight - because the Filipino suffered a heavy cut on his eyebrow when faced Canadian Tyson Cove last Saturday in Cebu, Philippines," said Concepcion.
