We welcomed former welterweight champion Carlos "El Indio" Quintana to the latest edition of The Boxing Lab, BoxingScene.com's official audio show. In addition to talking about his recent upset victory over Deandre Latimore, El Indio also spoke on the current state of Puerto Rican boxing.

Puerto Rico is known for having produced many boxing champions but Miguel Cotto's loss to Floyd Mayweather left the island with zero current champions.  Quintana feels that this lull is temporary and that La Isla Encantada will bounce back in no time.

"Puerto Rico is going through a bad moment right now but we have good prospects like (Thomas) Dulorme and (Jonathan) 'La Bomba' Gonzalez coming up. I am also back as well and I think Cotto will be a champion again," Quintana explained.

Speaking of Cotto, Quintana said that he still wants to avenge his knockout loss to the 3 division champion which took place in December of 2006 when both fighters were welterweights. He feels a rematch would produce a different outcome now that both fighters campaign in the junior middleweight division.

"Yes for sure I want a rematch against Cotto. I didn't feel as strong at 147 as I do now.  If I can get a belt I would love to fight Cotto again."
