Former welterweight champion Carlos "El Indio" Quintana appeared on the latest edition of The Boxing Lab, BoxingScene's official audio show. The interview can be heard by clicking here: http://tobtr.com/s/3137153

Shortly after his May 5th upset win over Deandre Latimore, Quintana advised BoxingScene.com that he wants to face WBC champion Saul "Canelo" Alvarez (40-0-1, 29KOs) on September 15th.  James Kirkland was the front runner to face Alvarez but it has been reported that he likely won't be far enough along in his rehab from shoulder surgery to be ready for the September date.

Quintana reiterated his interesting facing Canelo during our interview on The Boxing Lab.

"My promoter (Lou DiBella)has spoken to Canelo's people about it. I hope the fans can help push it as well.  With their help there is a better chance of it happening."

If that fight doesn't happen Quintana said that he is interested in facing any junior middleweight champion or possibly moving up to middleweight for the right opportunity.

"I would fight any of the champions at 154 or even at 160," Quintana revealed.

El Indio was a sizable underdog against Latimore and realizes that he surprised a lot of people with his performance.  He said that he was warmly greeted when he returned to his native Puerto Rico and said that he feels much more comfortable at 154 pounds.

"I had a great reception when I returned (to Puerto Rico). A lot of people picked against me because I was out so long. I feel strong at 154. I was draining myself at 147.  I want to be more active," Quintana concluded as he pointed out how he struggled to make the welterweight limit.
