WBO middleweight champion "Irish" Andy Lee (34-2, 24 KOs) is going to have his hands full on Saturday night, claims former beltholder Peter "Kid Chocolate" Quillin (31-0, 22 KOs), who promises to walk away with the world crown before his hometown fans at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn.
Lee-Quillin is the televised co-feature to the second edition of Premier Boxing Champions on NBC. The main event will have Danny "Swift" Garcia (29-0, 17 KOs) taking on Lamont Peterson (33-2-1, 17 KOs) in a catch-weight bout at 143-pounds.
At the final press conference, Quillin sent a message to Lee to let him know the title that he won last fall is going to a new owner.
"We're going to do more than just try to take that belt, we're going to take that belt because that's what we do," Quillin said.
"Andy is the champion of the world but this is the second time I've been the challenger to a world champion. I've been here before. I know he's a newly crowned champion so I have nothing bad to say about him. Andy's greatest strength is that he lost twice and was able to come back and make himself look very good.
Quillin is not concerned with any of Lee's come from behind wins and he's not paying any attention to any of Lee's defeats either.
"This is a totally different caliber fight than either of us has had. I'm not any of those fighters that he's faced. I can't go in there and try to fight like a Julio Cesar Chavez Jr," Quillin said. "I'm only concerned about working hard, which I've done every day leading up to this fight. So I have no concerns at all."
