New York - The United Kingdom at the moment is on the up and up in boxing with a multitude of world champions in the sport. Although there is an abundance of talent to make good fights, some of the country's best fighters decided to move up in weight divisions instead of fighting each other.
Both Amir Khan and Kell Brook have gone the same route in moving up by two weight classes from welterweight to middleweight. Khan moved up to 155 and suffered a devastating knockout at the hands of Canelo Alvarez in May.
Many feel IBF champion Kell Brook will suffer the same fate when he moved up by 13 pounds to take on middleweight king Gennady Golovkin on September 10.
Their UK counterpart, Scott Quigg (33-1-2, 29 KO's), feels the two of them should fight each other instead of placing themselves at a physical disadvantage by moving up in weight.
"A lot of Britain's fighters can fight each other and instead they are moving up to fight fights no one is giving them a chance to win," Quigg told BoxingScene.com. "I think the mentality is 'if I get beat no one expected me to win and I'm in a win-win situation and make some money off it.'"
He understands why the moves are being made and is pulling for both Khan and Brook, he feels the nature of losing in the sport is a reason why both have made such a decision.
"In a way it ruins and spoils the sport a bit because they are very good fights to make in certain divisions where I think though if those fighters lose in those divisions, their money is cut in half. That's why certain fighters want to protect their 0 because of that," Quigg said.
