Spanish PCI Promotions today won the purse bids today for European junior welterweight champion Pierce O'Leary's defence against mandatory challenger Jon Fernandez.
PCI hope to stage the 12-round fight in Bilbao in October or November.
Bllbao's Fernandez moved to 27-3 (22 KOs) in his last fight with a controversial win when Panamanian Ricardo Nunez was disqualified in the third round - and that result still stands with the Spanish Federation but the WBC, who put an international silver title on the line, reviewed it and declared a technical draw.
Dublin’s O'Leary, 17-0 (9 KOs) won the EBU title by beating Liam Dillon on June 7 on the Fabio Wardley-Justis Huni undercard in Ipswich, England. It remains to be seen if the promising 25-year-old, ranked ninth by the WBC to Hernandez’s 14th, will accept the bout.
Should he relinquish the title Fernandez will face the highest available challenger.
