Promoter Artie Pelullo is road weary and jet-lagged after spending the past few weeks overseas. First he was in Macao, for the pay-per-view card between Manny Pacquiao and Chris Algieri and then last weekend in Russia for Ruslan Provodnikov's stay-busy affair against Jose Luis Castillo.
Now, as he looks ahead, he plans the future for Provodnikov, who has a rematch clause with Algieri. Algieri, out-pointed Provodnikov (24-3, 17KOs) on June 14th at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn.
"I'm going to talk to Ruslan this week and the WBO - but right now (Algieri) doesn't even have the title. From what I understand the WBO has stripped Algieri of the (junior welterweight) title and I'm just not sure if we're going to go down that road or take a new approach for Ruslan," said Pelullo, from Philadelphia.
As for the parameters of this rematch clause, he explained:
"It's under my discretion, out of the three-fight deal, how it works is that Joe(Deguardia) and I co-promote. So it can be the first fight, second fight or third fight."
If Pelullo - who meets with HBO on Thursday - had his way:
"We would like to fight Lucas Matthysse, Marcos Maidana, Danny Garcia, Tim Bradley, Brandon Rios but some of the fights are hard to do because I don't believe Bob (Arum) is going to give us Rios or Bradley or any of his other guys. I'm going to have conversations with Ken Hershman (the president of HBO Sports) where we're going to go down the road to see if we can get some of the bigger names that are with Golden Boy and see how we can pull it off or not."
