Vadim Kornilov, the manager of both ex-WBO light welterweight Ruslan Provodnikov (24-4, 17 KOs) and top-ten boxer-stylist Victor Postol, told TASS media agency about Provodnikov’s most probable opponent in the fall.
“Our target is Brandon Rios (33-2-1, 24 KOs), since Lucas Martin Matthysse is pre-occupied with a championship fight against Victor Postol. We just hope that Rios will agree to the terms, and that his words aren’t just chatter. The networks are very interested in this fight."
According to sources in the industry, Top Rank would like to match Rios against Jessie Vargas. HBO would like to see Rios face Provodnikov or WBO welterweight champion Timothy Bradley.
Top Rank - who promote Rios and Bradley - are asking for more money than HBO is capable of paying to place this particular fight on their network. The situation leaves the door open for Provodnikov to face Rios if the two sides can reach an agreement.
