Wladimir Hryunov, the manager of the Russian boxers Alexander Povetkin and Denis Lebedev, commented on the behavior of the British heavyweight David Haye. Haye’s aggressive self-promoting which often includes insulting his opponents has surprised even some experts in the boxing world.
“I think that it’s unacceptable to conduct yourself in that way, - told Hryunov to BoxingScene.com. – I mean his constant public insults of the Klitschko brothers and now of Nikolay Valuev. Boxing is the kind of sports where you have to prove something to your opponent in the ring."
"I want to say that Haye’s conduct mustn’t cast a shadow at the British people overall, because a true Englishman is a gentleman with clear moral principles. Though Englishmen always have been very sport-loving nation, and they are known for their emotional behavior at sports events. But it’s different and I don’t think that Haye will attract public with his actions and words. People in England value sports, not some tasteless commercial show."
"Doesn’t he understand that children can also see and hear what he’s doing? What example does he set for the young lads who also want to become boxers? I would like to see the bout between Denis Lebedev and David Haye in the near future, so that they could settle some questions connected with sportsmanship and the conduct of gentleman."
Cruiserweight Denis Lebedev, as well as Haye, beat Enzo Maccarinell by knocking him out. Wladimir Hryunov is sure that Haye will lose to Valuev in their upcoming bout for the WBA heavyweight title, and then it will be possible to make a Haye vs Lebedev bout.
