Former heavyweight champion Alexander Povetkin is advising his comrade, four division world champion Roy Jones Jr. (62-9), to hang up the gloves.

This past Saturday night in Moscow, former WBO cruiserweight champion Enzo Maccarinelli (41-7, 33KOs) knocked Jones out in brutal fashion. Jones knocked out unconscious in the fourth round.

Povetkin wants the 46-year-old veteran to retire. Jones seems to want to continue fight.

The two recently became connected after Jones was granted Russian citizenship. Povetkin won an Olympic gold medal for Russia.

Povetkin is the first to admit that it's very hard to walk away from boxing.

"Boxing is like a drug. It's very hard to walk away from boxing. Jones apparently still has a stock of energy, because he always wants to go into battle. But we must understand that he has take punches that are quite severe, he suffered some severe knockouts. He is a great athlete and a champion, but it's time to [step away from] boxing," said Povetkin to Match TV.
