IBF welterweight champion Shawn Porter (24-0-1, 15KOs) has no idea where the rumor first began regarding the possibility of facing WBC/WBA champion Floyd Mayweather Jr. in a unification on September 13th.

Porter has a tentative date of September 6th for his mandatory defense against undefeated challenger Kell Brook (32-0, 22KOs). But before the contracts were signed, there were rumors being circulated that Porter was attempting to withdraw from the fight to accept an opportunity to face Mayweather.

"I don't know where it came from either. It was funny when I heard it. I was also hearing [the rumor] that he was going to fight me and my name was being called on. I just raised my eyebrows, I didn't play into it too much. Slowly but surely we got the word from Al Haymon that the fight with Kell Brook would go on. I think the day after that Mayweather stuff came out, we signed the contracts [for Brook]," Porter told BoxingScene.com.
