Shawn Porter beat Adrien Broner in a unanimous decision in Las Vegas on Saturday night in a key welterweight matchup.

The judges scored the fight 114-112, 115-111 and 118-108 in favour of Porter, who set the tone for the fight by going on the offensive from the first bell.

Porter relentlessly attacked to keep Broner on the back foot with flurries of jabs and unforgiving body shots. Broner tried to frustrate Porter by pushing and holding and was eventually deducted a point for persistent fouling by referee Tony Weeks in round 11.

Finally showing some of the strength and desire that had been sorely lacking hitherto, Broner stunned the crowd at the MGM Grand Garden Arena by sending Porter to the canvas in the final round with a powerful left hook, but it was scant consolation for the former three-time world champion.

Father and trainer Ken Porter wants Floyd Mayweather Jr. next.

“We’re going to do the battle for Las Vegas,” Ken Porter said. “We live on the same street, right down the street from Floyd — about a mile and a half. Don’t ignore us. Don’t act like the elephant’s not in the room.”

Shawn also echoed that he wants to get Mayweather in the ring. Mayweather is scheduled to return on September 12th

“I’m not looking for any more Mayweather undercards,” Porter said. “We were looking to get on the Mayweather-Pacquiao undercard. That didn’t happen. Now I’m not looking at watching him fight after I fight. I’m looking at fighting him.”
