BoxingScene.com spoke to Shawn "Showtime" Porter (14-0) after his first round demolishing of Raul Pinzon (17-5) on Friday night in Memphis. "We came in and did what we had to do. I was going after the body early so he started covering up and we set him up perfectly for that overhand right that ended the fight.". Porter said he wasn't surprised he had an early night. I asked if he was looking for a knockout since his last fight went the distance and Porter replied, "No we were not pressing at all. Going ten rounds last time was a good learning experience. We showed we could go ten rounds."
Porter was looking forward to going down to junior middleweight for the fight but Pinzon was far overweight and they agreed to reweigh in this morning and make it a middleweight fight. Porter is eventually going down to the weltwerweight division.
When asked when he was returning to the ring Showtime had his to say, "We should be back in May. We want to get back in the ring as soon as possible. Its unfortunate this fight wasn't at the junior middleweight limit but we took care of business."
When I asked for a prediction on the Floyd Mayweather-Shane Mosley mega-fight on May 1, Porter without hesitation said, "I am going with Mosley. You can't count Mayweather out but I think Mosley will pull out the win."
