Former champion Shawn Porter notched a big victory this past Saturday night at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, when he dominated Adrien Broner over twelve rounds in a Premier Boxing Champions headliner on NBC.

Porter was at one-time a sparring partner used by eight division champion Manny Pacquiao and credits those experiences for helping him grow as a fighter.

"Looking back on those experiences, I know that I’m doing what I’m supposed to do right now. I watch Manny train, he trains very hard and when it was time to get in the ring and put it down, he was always ready for that. I learned that from him, I learned how to work hard and just keep learning. It’s an every day process, one day at a time and I think more than anything when I look back at those experiences, I just know that I’m in the right places and I’m doing the right thing," Porter told On The Ropes Boxing Radio.

Now Porter is targeting a shot at Floyd Mayweather Jr. on September 12th. He was ringside last month at the MGM Grand and watched Mayweather outbox Pacquiao for a twelve round decision win.

"I was there, I thought the fight was very good. I thought Mayweather just did what he always does, he outclasses his opponents and that’s what he was able to do against Manny. I think the frustration from the fans came in when they didn’t expect that and so they want to blame it on other reasons. One reason obviously being that Manny had recently been knocked out in the last few years and he wasn’t the fighter he once was. I just think that Floyd had a great night and he’s proven himself to be a great fighter," Porter said.
